“Everything begins with an idea.”
Earl Nightingale
The first assignment in my Instructional Design course is to review three blogs that relate to the field of Instructional Design and Learning. This task in itself was very enlightening on many different fronts. For reasons that include Personal Improvement, Work and Learning, and Design Principles, I have selected the below blogs to review:
Farnam Street
Farnam Street’s page welcomes readers with the statement “Upgrade your thinking” which I have found to be accurate within my experience. The topics of discussion focus on how to improve one’s ability to sharpen understanding and thought. The role of an Instructional Designer requires that one must constantly seek Personal Improvement. This often times requires the guidance of mentors and other individuals who can offer their expertise to help with your growth. Farnam Street provides a great resource for all individuals who are on the Personal Improvement journey.

Cal Newport
Cal Newport is a computer science professor at Georgetown University and has published several books regarding the topics of Work and Learning. His blog represents over a decade of personal thoughts regarding these respective subjects. Instructional Designer’s are continuously challenged to explore and implement ways in which to maximize learning within the designs of their projects. Cal Newport provides an extensive resource on practical solutions towards Work and Learning that can assist Instructional Designers on the effectiveness of their projects.

IDDblog
DePaul University’s Center of Teaching and Learning created the the IDDblog in August of 2007 and has consistently provided valuable information and insights regarding the field of instructional design and educational technology. The blog has been listed as one of the 50 must-read IT blogs by Edtech Magazine regarding higher education. IDDblog’s contributors include experts and award-winning individuals in such fields as instructional design and educational technology. It is an essential practice that Instructional Designers implement Design Principles into their work. The IDDblog provides Instructional Designers a wealth of resources on what good Design Principles are and how to incorporate the ideas into projects.

Your formatting and overall design is really great and these were three sites I have not seen on the other blogs. Love the variation of information available.
